A Day in the Life of Brownie and Blaze: My German Shepherds
Hey everyone, Sophie here! So, if you know me, you probably know that I have two German Shepherds, Brownie and Blaze. And let me tell you, they are a handful—but in the best way possible. These two are the true rulers of my household, and they never fail to keep things interesting.
First off, Brownie is the older, wiser one. At 9 years old, she’s practically a senior citizen in dog years, but you’d never know it. She still thinks she’s a puppy and expects to be treated like royalty. When she’s not lounging on the couch, she’s giving me those “feed me now!” eyes, like I’ve been starving her for days (spoiler alert: she’s not starving). If she’s not getting food, she’s trying to convince me to play fetch with her, which, by the way, is her idea of fun, not mine. But somehow, I always end up throwing the ball just one more time… and then again. And again.
Now, Blaze is the 4-year-old whirlwind of chaos that has more energy than a toddler on sugar. This dog is always ready to go. If you’re not playing with him, he’s probably pulling out all his toys, barking at the squirrels in the yard, or trying to find something—anything—he can chew on. And if he’s not doing that, he’s jumping around like a pogo stick, as if the floor is made of trampolines. Blaze is also the one who thinks that every delivery driver is there to deliver his personal package. I’ve never seen a dog get so excited over a person dropping off a box at the door.
But here’s the funniest part: whenever I’m working on something (like school or even just trying to relax), I can count on one of them—usually Blaze—to come over, look me in the eyes, and plop right in the middle of whatever I’m doing. Whether it’s sprawled out on the couch, laying on my laptop, or rolling on my homework (yes, that happened), they’re determined to make sure that I know who is the real priority here.
And don’t even get me started on their “good cop, bad cop” routine. Brownie, the wise old lady, will act all calm and collected, then Blaze will charge in like a wrecking ball, knocking everything over in his path. One moment Brownie will be peacefully napping, and the next, Blaze will try to start an impromptu wrestling match right next to her, like he’s officially decided that nap time is over and it’s time to PARTY.
They might drive me crazy, but I wouldn’t trade them for anything. They’re loyal, funny, and always make me laugh—even on the most stressful days. So, here’s to Brownie and Blaze, the dynamic duo that’s never short on entertainment!
