Country Roads and Power Chords: My Obsession with Taylor, Ella, Jason, Megan & Ashley

Blog Title: “Country Roads and Power Chords: My Obsession with Taylor, Ella, Jason, Megan & Ashley”
By Sophie Turner

Okay, I have a confession to make—and I’m not even going to try and be cool about it. I’m obsessed with country music right now. Not just any country music—the kind that makes you want to throw on cowboy boots, scream into the night, and also cry about love, life, and everything in between. We’re talking about a very specific vibe, and it belongs to Taylor Swift, Ella Langley, Jason Isbell, Megan Moroney, and Ashley McBryde.

Let’s unpack this glorious lineup.

Taylor Swift – The OG Queen of My Soul

Let’s be real—who isn’t a Swiftie at this point? I’ve loved her since “Teardrops on My Guitar” (throwback!) but watching her evolve into this boundary-breaking goddess with the Eras Tour? Unreal. “You’re On Your Own, Kid” wrecks me in the best way. Taylor writes the kind of lyrics you wish you could tattoo on your heart. And don’t even get me started on Folklore and Evermore—I could live in those albums.

Ella Langley – The Firecracker I Didn’t Know I Needed

Ella Langley is pure sass meets southern grit. I stumbled across her music on a random drive and immediately pulled over to find out who she was. Her voice has this fierce, smoky edge, like she’s been through some things and dares you to ask about them. “Country Boy’s Dream Girl”? Yes. Just, yes. She makes heartbreak sound like a power move.

Jason Isbell – The Poet

Jason Isbell’s songwriting should be studied in universities. I mean, this man turns pain into poetry and makes you want to drive through small towns in the rain, even if you don’t know how to drive stick. “Cover Me Up” is one of those songs that hits different—every single time. He’s raw, real, and there’s something deeply healing about his music. Like musical therapy, but with more guitars.

Megan Moroney – The Cool Girl of Country

Megan Moroney is giving me all the 2000s country nostalgia with a modern, slightly unhinged twist. Her lyrics are sharp, her voice is pure honey with a kick of whiskey, and she just gets it. “Tennessee Orange” is stuck in my head constantly (and I don’t even care about football). She feels like the friend who always shows up with wine and good advice.

Ashley McBryde – The Underdog Hero

Ashley McBryde is the definition of grit and grace. Her songs are so real—like small town legends wrapped in melody. “Girl Goin’ Nowhere” is basically an anthem for anyone who’s ever been underestimated. She reminds me that strength and vulnerability aren’t opposites; they’re best friends. And live? She will straight-up blow you away.

So yes, my playlists are officially 90% country queens and soulful storytellers right now. These artists make me feel everything—love, rage, hope, pride, and a strange urge to buy a pickup truck I absolutely don’t need.

If you haven’t dived into this side of country music yet, do yourself a favor: grab a punch, find a porch, and press play. Your soul will thank you.

Sophie
